End-of-Year Goodbyes

This year we say goodbye to members of staff. Ms Elayne Mc Dermott is taking early retirement after many years in Sligo Grammar School. In the main Elayne was a teacher of PE and Geography, but for a period of time she ran the Learning Support Department in SGS. She was the person who set up The Lodge which is the centre of the SEN Department in the school, and so laid the foundations of our very successful SEN programme.

€8,051 Raised for North West Hospice

This term the Transition Year class raised an incredible €8,051 for the North West Hospice as a result of the 5km walk/run which took place at Doorly Park on Saturday 14th May. The aim of this fundraiser was to create awareness of the work the Hospice does in our community and contribute to that priceless work.  The TYs were joined by students from other years as well as staff and friends of SGS, and they set up an “i donate” page

Class of 2022 Valedictory Service

On Thursday 19th May the class of 2022 celebrated their last day of class.  In the morning the sixth years were treated to breakfast in the dining hall followed by the now traditional Students/Staff soccer match. This year victory went to the Staff! A game of rounders  was also played and, again, the Staff team came out on top. NORTH WEST HOSPICE FUNDRAISING RUN

On Saturday 14th May a group of SGS students and staff dedicated their Saturday morning to a 5k fundraising run. The run (or walk) was organised by the Sligo Grammar School TY class as a fundraiser for North West Hospice. The students co-ordinated with Park Run, Sligo and organised a fundraising drive, getting sponsorship for the run and setting up an “i donate” page to make it easy for their friends and families to donate to this very worthy cause.

Mask On/Mask Off Goes Public

Last May SGS launched a Whole-School Art Project to mark the impact of Covid-19 on the life of the school. Everyone in the school bought into the project and the finished work can now be seen on the staircase wall. This year SGs has been very active in bringing issues around Climate change to the forefront of our minds.
